Community
Mobile, Reimagined
AzurePCS is an experimental community-driven mobile network project using small-cell cellular technology and shared spectrum to bring affordable connectivity to every corner of the UK.
How the Network Works
AzurePCS combines an open-source core network, compact base stations, and shared spectrum licensing to deliver real mobile connectivity; built by the community, for the community.
The Core Network
Powered by the open-source Open5GS platform, the core manages subscriber authentication, IP assignment, data routing, and base station connectivity. A fully independent mobile infrastructure.
Local Base Stations
Small, low-power cellular radios connect securely to the core over encrypted internet tunnels, which are installed in homes, businesses, and community sites.
Shared Spectrum Licensing
Operating under Ofcom-issued licences including Shared Access Licences and Local Access Licences, AzurePCS deploys legally on spectrum that national operators leave unused.
Licensed Spectrum Access
AzurePCS operates within Ofcom's regulatory framework, using licences that open the door for smaller organisations to legally run cellular networks in local areas.
These regulatory frameworks make it possible for smaller organisations to access spectrum that is often unused by national operators, enabling legal, localised LTE deployments without requiring a full national licence.
Hosted by Local Communities
A key idea behind AzurePCS is community participation. Local organisations host compact base stations, bringing coverage to areas too small for national operators to care about.
Pubs & Venues
Local pubs and community venues provide indoor coverage for patrons and surrounding areas.
Caravan Parks
Holiday parks and campsites can offer guests reliable data without relying on patchy macro coverage.
Farms
Rural agricultural sites often lack coverage — small cells make connectivity viable where towers never will.
Churches
Community buildings and places of worship with good siting can extend coverage across entire villages.
Rural Businesses
Shops, offices and small businesses in rural areas benefit from and contribute to the shared network.
Anyone, Really
The network grows wherever a willing host and a spectrum licence exist — local by design.
What AzurePCS Provides
Currently focused on mobile data connectivity, AzurePCS delivers real LTE services today — with a roadmap that includes voice, roaming, and deeper community infrastructure projects.

A Different Approach to Mobile
Traditional operators chase density — they build where the people are. AzurePCS asks a different question: what if we built where people need connectivity instead? By combining open-source telecom software, compact hardware, and community participation, we're demonstrating that smaller, locally-deployed networks can genuinely serve the places that national infrastructure ignores.
